Here are three simple ones that just about anyone can complete in a few hours or even less.

Paint

A fresh coat of paint makes a huge difference and you don’t have to apply a lot of it in order to completely transform a room. Even just repainting kitchen or bathroom cabinets a neutral color gives the home a spacious feel. Alternatively, use alternating light and dark colors to draw attention to certain areas of a room.

Paint typically costs anywhere from $15 to $30 a gallon and supplies such as a paint tray, paintbrushes, roller and paint remover can be purchased for well under $30. Painting portions of a room shouldn’t take more than an hour or two although painting one or more rooms and/or the outside of the home can take up to a couple of weeks.

Floating Bookshelf

A floating bookshelf serves two useful purposes. It keeps books and other types of clutter off of floors and tables. It also helps to create a unique style of decor in any bedroom or living room.

All you need for the job are a couple of metal brackets, some screws and, in some instances, a drill. Metal brackets and screws shouldn’t cost more than a few dollars per set while a drill can be purchased for anywhere from $50 to $100. Alternatively, you can even rent a drill from large stores such as Home Depot.

DIY Wall Wreaths

A decorative wall wreath can add a natural feel to any room. You can purchase supplies such as glue, felt, fake leaves and/or flowers for less than $20; alternatively, you can collect your own supplies while on a nature walk or even use old rags or clothing to come up with your own stunning designs.

It shouldn’t take more than an hour or two to make your own wreath. In fact, you can do a DIY wreath in less than an hour if you have some experience and/or pick a simple design.

You may not be able to make major home improvements if you are still paying off a mortgage. However, that doesn’t mean you have to accept your home as is. Even small improvements can make a difference. Consider your options, style of decor and budget and then set to work making small yet significant changes.

DIY home improvement projects don’t have to be costly or time-consuming.
