The Silent Killer

Stress… what does it look like to you?

For me, it’s allowing myself to be pulled in 5 different directions and feeling very out of control. Honestly, many times it is my own fault.  It is my fault for over committing and not being able to say NO.  Saying NO is something I can change. It takes a lot of self work, but I can change it. What about the stress that we can’t change such as, stress from our job, from our family or from life in general? How can we better cope with that kind of stress?  What does stress really do to our bodies? Why is it now called “The Silent Killer?”

I love the information detailed in the link below from The Mayo Clinic on Cortisol (the stress hormone).

So, The Silent Killer, how do we combat this? For me, I began a journey of learning how to say NO, to really feel ok with it, and to not feel guilty that I have let someone down. I also started doing yoga twice a week. Oh my, it has been amazing – Exhale the negative and inhale the positive!
We can’t completely rid our lives of stress but we can increase awareness and take a proactive approach for minimizing it.
