First-Time Homeowner? These Are the Questions You’ll Probably Have

Posted by : Moneek
Buying a home is a huge milestone — but once you get the keys, new questions start popping up fast. Here are a few of the most common things homeowners ask (and what you really need to know):
“When is my first mortgage payment due?”
Usually about a month after you close. I (your lender) will give you the exact date, and it’s often in your closing paperwork.
“What’s actually included in my mortgage payment?”
It’s not just the loan. Most payments include principal, interest, property taxes, and homeowners insurance — and sometimes mortgage insurance, too.
“What is an escrow account and why do I have one?”
Escrow is a separate account your lender uses to collect and pay your property taxes and insurance. It helps keep things on track so you don’t have to pay big bills all at once.
“Do I need to change anything with utilities or insurance?”
Yes! Make sure utilities are in your name, and review your homeowners insurance annually — especially if your coverage was bundled into your loan.
“What should I do first when it comes to maintenance?”
Change air filters, test smoke detectors, and get familiar with your HVAC system, plumbing shutoffs, and breaker box. A little prep goes a long way.
